Song: "See the Pyramids Along the Nile..."

2008, March 28. Dear Grandson: TeTa and I are about to drive down to the Island of Manhattan, to spend the day with the great art of the world at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But first, I want to tell you a story about the Pyramids. Your Mother kindly remembered that I really wanted the picture of her sitting in front of the Great Pyramid in Egypt. So she gave me the photograph I wanted, and I framed it, and this morning it stands with the framed photographs of your Father and Mother together and your Uncle Michael and Aunt Amy together! Soon you will be able to see this picture corner of our apartment and then you can learn to talk and to ask: "What's that pile of rock with Mommy""
Last night, we watched a movie made in 1934, the year I was born. I t was named "The Twentieth Century" after the great streamlined train that used to go from Chicago to New York. We are going to take you on great trains because Walt Disney and I have always loved trains. Germany has great trains, and we can take a train to Nuremberg, the toy capital of the world. I want to get you the same toy my friend Catherine Ellsberg has: it is Mickey Mouse wearing leiderhosen and waving a German flag! Also, I want to get you toys with Remy, the rat from "Ratatouille ", and , NEW! -- Horton, the elephant from "Horton Hears a Who?" because:
I mean what I said,
And I said what I meant,
An elephant is faithful
100 per cent!
love, Grandpa John and Grandma Hind

Baby Balou heard a Who from within the womb when we went to see Horton Hears a Who at the Lichtberg Cinema in Essen before I left for Cairo.
It is great that Dr. Seuss is finally appreciated in Germany!
